B i o g r a p h y

I first took up the musical saw in 2011, having inherited it from my late father, Eric Watsham.    He played the saw for about 40 years and when he died I felt I would like to carry on the tradition in his memory.

Since then I have been honoured to take part in many saw-related events, and have had the opportunity to play with and learn from some of the greatest saw players around, including Charles Hindmarsh the legendary Yorkshire Saw Player and Hanquan Qui, President of the Chinese Musical Saw Association.

I have performed twice in front of Simon Cowell on Britain's Got Talent, though sadly he isn't a fan of this instrument!    Most people who  hear it are far more polite, and are intrigued by the fascinating and ethereal tones that are produced.

The saw is always a popular attraction when played out on the streets - and I am happy to give listeners the chance to try and get a few notes out of it themselves.

It also lends itself to more formal concert events, and I have played with groups of international players,  in Sheffield, Paris and, most recently, in Vienna, in addition to solo concert performances in London and Oxford.

I enjoy playing a broad repertoire, ranging from show classics such as "Memories", through to quirkier pieces such as the "Dr Who" theme, and occasionally branching into rock "Sweet Child O' Mine" (the latter benefits from a bit of audience participation on air guitars).
